Steering Resilience in Himachal

The recent floods in Uttar Pradesh were devastating. Heavy rains and melting glaciers caused the Beas River and its tributaries to swell, triggering landslides and flooding homes due to the region's steep slopes, fragile geology, and lack of preparedness and early warning systems. The floods affected Manali and neighbouring areas, including Tirthan Valley, Sainj Valley, Mandi, Pandoh, and Kaza, wreaking havoc on infrastructure, roads and bridges, schools, and healthcare facilities. Many people lost their lives, homes, and livelihoods reliant on agriculture and tourism.

To help, we worked closely with local authorities and organisations such as District Administration at Kaza and Kullu, the Rotary Club in Manali, and the overarching Hotel Association & Adventure Tour Operators to provide immediate relief and support long-term recovery efforts. Our goal is to help rebuild these communities and create a more resilient future.

COVID-19 Relief Work

We were determined to help India fight the COVID-19 pandemic. During the first wave, on an entirely pro-bono basis, we worked with the government to develop the Aarogya Setu app and supported communities facing hardships. We provided meals, ration kits, and livelihood opportunities to those in need. We created livelihood generation opportunities for women by making masks, cash transfers to bus drivers, and sanitisation kits for cab drivers. When the second wave hit, we focused on increasing access to healthcare by providing over 300 oxygen concentrators through hospitals, armed forces, and grassroots NGOs and funding oxygen plants. We also partnered with several private and charitable hospitals, such as Sir Ganga Ram City Hospital.
