Climate change has become an urgent issue requiring immediate action. The travel and tourism industry, a cornerstone of global economic activity, is caught in a double bind. On the one hand, it suffers immensely from the consequences of a warming planet. On the other hand, it's very operations contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, fueling the crisis further. As a responsible online travel aggregator (OTA), we recognize this complex reality. We are committed to addressing these issues head-on, starting with internal operational changes and extending our focus to promoting sustainable travel practices throughout the industry.

Emission Reduction

As a first step towards effective climate action, we aim to measure and understand the quantity and sources of our GHG emissions. Therefore, we have measured our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in line with the GHG protocol. This has provided us with valuable insights into our direct and indirect emissions (emissions from purchased electricity), allowing us to identify key areas for improvement. Currently, we are developing strategies to account for our Scope 3 emissions, which will encompass the broader impact of our operations. By understanding and addressing our total GHG emissions, we aim to implement effective measures to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to global climate action efforts.

Achieved 85% renewable energy

MakeMyTrip is adopting clean energy solutions. We have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to source renewable electricity for our Bengaluru office, demonstrating our commitment to transitioning to sustainable energy sources. We have already achieved an impressive 85% reliance on renewable energy sources at our Bengaluru facility, and we are actively working to transition the remaining portion soon.

Seeds of Change Project

This program reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability and fosters a culture of shared responsibility. For each new employee who joins our team, we plant five saplings in their name. This initiative contributes to a healthier planet and creates a legacy for future generations. In fiscal year 24, we planted around 3,000 saplings, and we remain committed to building a more sustainable future.

Leading the change with electric vehicles for Business travel

In a proactive move towards environmental stewardship, we are transitioning our on-ground business travel fleet to low-carbon-emitting electric vehicles (EVs). Partnering with a leading EV mobility provider in India has been a vital step in this journey. This collaboration not only aligns with our environmental goals but also sets a precedent for eco-friendly business practices in the travel and tourism industry.

We launched this initiative in January 2024 and have successfully saved around 0.4 tCO2 in just four months. Furthermore, we have implemented a 'Drive Green Benefit Policy' that incentivizes our employees to choose EVs for business travel. By making these shifts, we aim to minimize the environmental impact of fossil fuel combustion, demonstrating our dedication to sustainable operations within our value chain. These initiatives demonstrate our persistent efforts to protect the environment while continuing to deliver exceptional service.
